Underground Portal

The Underground Portal is a structure generated in the Caverns near the center of the world. It resembles a bridge with two huts on either side and a small temple in the middle. The portal cannot yet be entered.

To the immediate right of the portal is a soulful corpse which can be interacted with using the Dead Ringer, obtained from the Elder Wood Chest in the right hand-side hut alongside a guaranteed Empty Crux Card and standard Gathic Tombs loot. Right-clicking the corpse with the Dead Ringer will summon a special Lost Soul that will move into the player and grant them the Spirit Walker Ability. Right-clicking the corpse a second time will summon the Spirit Stranger NPC, who will give information related to spirit-walking and the Spirit Realm.

After defeating Skeletron and during the day, a question mark will appear on the minimap at the portal's location along with a status message "A portal rumbles... (Check minimap for location)". Moving close to the portal at any time after this status message will trigger a cutscene with Calavia and begin the fight with her afterwards. If Calavia is spared, she will stay at the Underground Portal until the player decides she is ready to leave.

Trivia

• This portal is linked to the Catacombs of Gathuram.
  • Many of the creatures from the mainland (specifically Gathuram) came to the island through this portal.
  • Since the portal goes to a catacomb, the majority of creatures to come through are undead.
