The Keeper is a Pre-Hardmode boss intended to be fought after the Eye of Cthulhu.
While The Keeper is alive, the music Haunting Loneliness will play.
Spawn
The Keeper spawns either randomly at night after defeating the Eye of Cthulhu, with the message "Shrieks echo through the night..." or by using the Wedding Ring during the Night.
Behavior
The Keeper tends to stay either to the left or the right of the player, choosing a random attack. Once at 50% health or below, she will scream and unveil her face. If the Sorrowful Essence is in the player's inventory during the scream, Skull Digger will spawn and fight in his mistress' stead while the Keeper stays back, becoming invincible. Bringing Skull Digger to 0 health will resume the fight with her.
If the player has the Abandoned Teddy in their inventory, the fight will end peacefully, with The Keeper dropping Keeper's Circlet and her trophy. Trying to summon the Keeper after freeing her will instead summon The Keeper's Echo, which behaves identically to The Keeper.
Attacks
- Soul Charge - The Keeper slightly slows down, emitting white particles before shooting a large burst of Soul Charges at the player. The burst duration is increased below 50% health.
- Reaper Slash - Teleports closer to the player before performing a quick horizontal dash, repeating 2 times (below 50% health, 3 times). This attack inflicts Bleeding.
- Blood Wave - Moves away from the player before shooting out 6 short-ranged Blood Waves in a spread, dealing 50 damage to herself. The Blood Waves inflict Bleeding and heal 60 health to The Keeper.
- Shadow Bolts - Fires bouncing slow-accelerating shadow bolts at the player, with fire rate increasing below 50% health.
Upon reaching 50% health and unveiling, she gains the following attack:
- Dread Coil - Fires 4 fast moving Dread Coils which curve towards the player.
In Expert Mode
- Performs 3 Reaper Slashes instead of 2, and 4 instead of 3 if below 50% health
Notes
- It is possible for The Keeper to kill herself through her Blood Wave attack.
- Unlike most bosses who can only be summoned at Night, The Keeper does not despawn or enrage during the Day.
