"Mechanical whirls beneath the ground, be wary of the deadly sound"

The Omega Gigapora is a Hardmode boss fought after Golem and is the second of the 3 fightable Omega Prototypes.

While the Omega Gigapora is alive, the music Armageddon Interface will play.

Spawn

The Omega Gigapora is summoned by using the 2nd option of the Omega Transmitter after Golem has been defeated and during the night. Upon being used, the Wielder Bot will appear and show off his drill. Afterwards, the screen will shake, with the Omega Gigapora emerging and killing the Wielder Bot instantly, initiating the fight.

Behavior

The Omega Gigapora is a worm-type enemy that can both burrow through the ground and fly through the air, attempting to ram the player and occasionally using special attacks. Its body is covered by a barrier that negates all incoming damage, but Gigapora will periodically dispatch destructible Shield Cores to attack the player. Defeating a Shield Core will deal 16.67% (1/6) of Gigapora's health as damage to it and disable one part of the shield on its body, causing the exposed parts to become vulnerable. The affected segments will also appear visibly damaged and will no longer perform any special attacks. Gigapora will release the first two Cores one at a time, but will release the last 4 in pairs, only releasing the new Core(s) when the previous one(s) are destroyed. The Shield Cores will also have a visual beam that points towards Gigapora's current position.

Defeating all 6 Shield Cores will cause Gigapora to explode, instantly ending the fight. Gigapora can also be defeated by manually depleting its health after destroying at least 1 Shield Core, although this is not recommended due to its protected segments and massive health pool.

Attacks

  • When above ground, periodically fires a barrage of Laser Bolts perpendicular to its body segments, indicated by faint warning lines in advance.
  • Flies above the player and starts moving horizontally. After a delay, perpendicular Flames will erupt from Gigapora's body segments, which spray Fireballs. Its tail segment will also be spraying out a large shower of Rockslide (projectile).pngRubble behind itself to prevent players from staying behind Gigapora.
  • Dashes towards the player and circles around them, releasing a large number of Cross Bomb.gifCross Bombs from its body segments that each explode into a plus pattern of Omega Beams.

Gains the following attack after destroying 1 Shield Core:

  • Drills under the player and lunges straight up. At the apex of its lunge, it will release a large spray of Rubble that rains down from above.

Gains the following attack below 50% health or after destroying 2 Shield Cores:

  • Gigapora surfaces and opens its drill, charging up power, with the camera semi-focusing on it. Afterwards, it will fire a massive sustained Gigabeam that slowly sweeps the area and tracks the player's position. Gigapora's body segments can still fire Laser Bolts during this attack.

Spawn animation

Shield Cores try to stay a certain distance away from the player, performing simple attacks to defend themselves. Every Shield Core beyond the first will gain +10% maximum health compared to the previous one, up to +50% for the last Shield Core summoned in the fight. They will not attack when Omega Gigapora is using its cross bombs, flamethrowers, or gigabeam. Additionally, Shield Cores attack slower if there are more than one of them active at the same time.

Shield Cores possess the following attacks:

  • Fires accelerating Energy Bolts at the player.
  • Charges up and shoots two Dualcast (Shield Core).gifDualcast orbs that home in on the player. The orbs disappear if they touch eachother or after 5 seconds.
  • Flies above the player and unleashes a barrage of electric bolts around them, each one telegraphed by a cloud of red sparks.

Quotes

After defeating Omega Gigapora these lines appear from Girus in order:

  • "Hah, not bad!"
  • "A little sad how useless TeoChrome's shield technology was,"
  • "Can't completely encompass something as the Shield projector will throw a hissy-fit if it's inside."
  • "I did get some ideas on how to use this to my advantage, though..."
  • "Anyways! Same as last time, I'll ready another machine for a test."
  • "Might take a bit longer though, as I'll try out a design of my own. Until then."

Tips

  • During the Gigabeam attack, it is best to stay close to the Gigapora's head segment as it will have a harder time tracking the player's position due to its slow turn speed.

Trivia

  • The name Gigapora comes from the word Giga and Pora, the Finnish for Drill.
    • Additionally, Gigapora's old name was Gigapede, a portmanteau of the words Giga and Centipede.
  • The Wielder Bot that appears in the intro cutscene is internally called "Porakone", or "Power drill" in Finnish

BestiaryBestiary entries

  • Omega Gigapora: "A modified tunnelling machine, originally of Teochrome design, retrofitted with rocket boosters, various weaponry and very experimental projected shield technology. Gigapora's shield projectors are prone to overheating and melting if they're inside the projected shield, hence why they're outside."
  • Shield Core: "These bulky, lightweight drones hold experimental shield projectors in their lower half. If damaged, the projector may malfunction and violently release its energy right back into the segments it was protecting."
