"A portal to another world has opened!"
The Seed of Infection is a Pre-Hardmode boss that is intended to be fought after the Eater of Worlds or the Brain of Cthulhu.
While the Seed of Infection is alive, the music Virogenesis will play.
Spawn
The Seed of Infection is summoned using the Anomaly Detector.
Behavior
The Seed of Infection tries to keep a certain distance away from the player and performs the following attacks:
- Dash - Moves away from the player for a second before charging quickly at them twice.
- Shard Shot - Stays to the side of the player and fires a spread of 3 Shard Shots.
- Below 50% health, fires an additional spread of 5 Shard Shots.
- Irradiated Rain - Launches 8 arcing Shard Shots in random directions.
- Below 50% health, launches 14 Shard Shots instead.
- Hive Growths - Stops and spawns 5 Hive Growths that are attached to it via chains. If the Hive Growths are not killed within 10 seconds, Seed of Infection will absorb them, healing in the process. The amount of healing is equal to the health the Hive Growths had upon their absorption. Additionally, they will emit clouds of Toxic Gas when absorbed.
- Below 50% health, spawns 7 Hive Growths instead.
- Splitting Shards - Shoots a spread of 3 Splitting Shards that quickly decelerate and break into 3 / 5 Shard Shots after 1 second.
- Below 50% health, fires an additional spread of 5 Splitting Shards.
Below 75% health gains the following attack:
- Xenomite Beam - Tries to go above the player and stops to shoot a Xenomite Beam downwards.
- Below 50% health, moves while shooting the Xenomite Beam.
Below 50% health gains the following attacks:
- Toxic Sludge - Moves to the side and shoots 3 clumps of 2-3 bouncy Toxic Sludge.
- In Expert Mode shoots 4 clumps instead.
- Xenomite Shot - Moves away from the player before doing 4 short dashes in a quick succession while firing gravity-affected Xenomite Shots in random directions.
- Dashes become faster below 25% health.
- Irradiated Rain II - Flies horizontally above the player, raining down Shard Shots. Can change directions during this attack up to 2 times.
- Below 25% health, Shard Shots are fired at a faster rate.
Below 25% health gains the following attack:
- Scatter Splatter - Spins in place, shooting out bouncy Toxic Sludge in random directions.
Summons
Aftermath
- After the Seed of Infection is defeated, a green portal will appear if there are no tiles in the way or no bosses active, if the conditions are not met, it'll appear the moment they are. A cutscene will play introducing Adam the Friendly T-Bot, who will move in immediately even without a house available. If the player leaves without the portal appearing, Adam will move in naturally like any other town NPC.
