The Elder Wood Crossbow is a pre-Hardmode repeater found in Elder Wood Chests inside Gathic Tombs or sold by the Fallen while underground. It shoots Elder Wood Bolts that split into 2-4 smaller shards whenever they hit an enemy. If an Elder Wood Bolt impacts a tile, the shards will be launched in random directions instead. The shards deal 50% of the original weapon's damage and can pierce twice but have a very short range.

The Elder Wood Crossbow can be upgraded into Iron Realm Crossbow by Calavia after progressing her quest.

Its best modifier is Unreal.
