MACE Project is a post-Moon Lord miniboss found in the Abandoned Lab. It drops the Lab Access Panel - 0, which deactivates some of the laser security systems, allowing access to Sector Zero, and the Patient Zero boss.
While MACE Project is alive, the music Safety Violation will play.
Spawn
MACE Project initially lays dormant in its arena in the Abandoned Lab's Omicron Sector, unlocked after defeating Protector Volt. Entering its room will begin the fight.
After the initial fight, MACE Project can be re-summoned by using the Hologram Remote in its arena.
Behavior
MACE Project remains in the center of its arena during most of its attacks. Its first phase possesses 40,000 Guard Points that can be depleted to progress the fight to the next phase. Alternatively, the player can deplete its main health below 75%, for example by using Psychic damage or Energy-based weapons.
The Crane Operator is an invincible NPC found in the control room at the top right of the arena. She tries to stop the MACE Project from attacking, albeit unsuccessfully. The Crane Operator cycles through multiple animations during the fight, but does not serve any functional purpose. After defeating MACE Project, she will leave and will not appear on subsequent refights.
Phase 1
At the beginning of the fight, MACE Project will roar and launch 15 gravity-affected Flaming Blasts in a circle. During the fight, MACE Project fires a
Xenium Laser at the player every 4 seconds, unless it performs the Laser Barrage attack.
It will cycle through its attacks in a set order:
- Drops 3 bouncing
Big Electronades that explode into a Tesla Field after 1.4 seconds.
- Moves to the left corner of the arena before slowly moveing to the right, launching Flaming Blasts as it does so.
- Rapidly fires 9 Xenium Lasers at the player.
Below 50% of its Guard Points, MACE Project will roar again, dislodging 6 bouncing Scrap projectiles, as well as 15 Flaming Blasts in a circle. It will strengthen its attacks, as well as gain a new one.
- Drops 4 Big Electronades instead of 3.
- Launches Flaming Blasts more frequently.
- Laser Barrage now consists of 16 Xenium Lasers insteead of 9.
- Charges a
Fire Blast for 3.17 seconds, before launching it at the player.
Phase 2
Upon depleting MACE Project's Guard Points, or after reducing its health below 75%, it will lose its lower jaw, fire 6 Scrap projectiles and gain a new pattern.
It will cycle through its new attacks in a set order:
- Launches a bouncing
Xeno Blast, while firing 9 Xenium Lasers at the player.
- Fires a spread of 6 Xenium Lasers, followed by a spread of 12, then a spread of 18 Xenium Lasers.
- Slams into the ground, creating
Electric Eruption along the floor and firing a total of 26 Electric Bolts in a circle.
- Launches 4 stationary
Xenium Orbs to its sides that fire a
Xenium Zap after 2 seconds. During this attack, the Laboratory MACE Turrets on the sides of the arena will activate and fire
Flak Bullets in an arc.
- Slams into a wall, firing a total of 35 Electric Bolts in a circle and dislodging 6 Scrap projectiles.
Trivia
- MACE Project is a reference to M.A.C.E, the final boss of the video game Intrusion 2.
Bestiary entries
- MACE Project: "An old, unfinished war machine that went haywire. Looks like it never saw the light of day, as it's in progress of being scrapped for parts and components."
- Crane Operator: "A timid android with ambitious goals. She does small, odd jobs around the Laboratory. Usually ones that required an operator."
